Job Summary

The Osterhout lab in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah seeks a Research Associate to assist with ongoing projects in the lab investigating the neurological mechanisms underlying sickness behaviors. A qualified individual will perform behavioral studies and analysis, in situ protein and RNA expression analyses with the goal of understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying hypersensitivity during sickness. A high degree of motivation, communication, and time-management skills is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with advanced behavioral studies
  • Use commercial and machine-learning-based tools for behavior analysis
  • Perform brain histology for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Lead experiments in cross-campus collaborations
  • Help train junior members of the lab
  • Keep thorough records of experimental design and results
